For the past two weeks I have had been busy working on the first event at Muse of 2009. I have been very hard at work with Lauren from Chocolopolis tasting and learning more about single origin chocolate. Along with Scott, our roast master at Herkimer, we have come up with some great pairings and are excited to share them with you.
Be sure to mark your calendar for February 19th at 7pm. Chocolopolis will also be inviting their costumers, and space is limited to 26 people so be sure to sign up soon! For only $25 per person, Lauren, Scott and I will talk about the various methods used to process cacao (pictured above, yes that is really what chocolate starts out as) and coffee, how terroir affects flavor, and the significance of roast in the process of creating the best end product. During the event, we will be cupping and tasting coffee and pairing the coffee with the chocolate to create amazing combinations that enhance both products. For this event only, there will be special pricing for .25lb, and .5lb bags of each single origin coffee and single origin chocolate will be available as well. This event is a great Valentine’s Day gift for you and your sweetie to enjoy together.
As space is limited make your reservation now by calling me at 206.282.2711. If the event is a sell out, we will schedule another event in the near future. I have received a great response to the event as details have been released, so book early!
It has been a little while since I last wrote a blog posting, but as I am sure many of you understand, I have been busy running a small business in a challenging economy. No matter what may be going on with our Global or National economies, the staff at Muse is doing everything to make sure your experience in our store is exceptional in experience and value. Thank you for choosing Muse when getting your daily coffee, we appreciate your business.

Chocolate and Coffee Event!
Only in…
I love where I live and I see around me everyday things that could only happen in Seattle. I see cars parked on the wrong side of the road, I see people sunbathing on the beach in April when it is sunny and 58 degrees, again, only in Seattle.
In America, we have things that can only happen in this country i.e., Drive through liquor and ammunition.
I read in the paper today a story that could only happen in France. A very unusual group decided to bare all and strike against the French government; that’ll show em’.
Year in Ideas

Yesterday was the New York Times Year in Ideas issue. Cool stuff includes the above Cloth BMW and bubble wrap that never ends.
Today is my birthday and I want to give another plug to the Muse Coffee Co Anniversary Food Drive to benefit Queen Anne Help Line.
Please bring nonperishable, canned food to Muse on Saturday the 13th from 12 to 3. While you are here you can raise a glass to toast our one year anniversary. See you on Saturday!
Anniversary
.
Today is a special day- it is the one year anniversary of Muse Coffee Co and the day we opened for business!
Josh, Ross, Alison, Anne-Marie, and I are so honored to be the place where you start your day and will continue to take pride in serving you over the next year.
To celebrate our anniversary, I want to extend an invitation to you and all of your friends to join us at Muse on Saturday, December 13th, between Noon and 3pm, for a holiday open house. Drop by and raise a glass of champagne to toast our first year. The only thing we ask of you is that you bring a donation of nonperishable, packaged food which will be donated to Queen Anne HelplineBaby formula and diapers are very much in demand for the Helpline this year so we will gladly take those donations as well.
I feel very blessed in my life because at Muse I get to meet and serve engaging and dynamic customers everyday. I am also blessed with a wonderful family and friends, and I feel the best way to celebrate this milestone is to do it with those who have supported me along the way, while giving back to the community that has brought me happiness over the years.
New Art
This reminds me of an old sock monkey I had when I was a kid.
This month he gets to live at Muse with other works from Anita Lehmann, local architect, industrial designer, award winning illustrator, graphic designer and drawing teacher. I have known Anita since our now teenage sons, were playing little league baseball together as young boys.
Come by and see her work and enjoy.

It is getting cooler outside and the one thing that always makes my very beloved best girl and partner smile and sigh is cashmere. I think there is something downright holy about it. Every time you put it on your skin, you feel protected and soothed.
If cashmere is holy, my longtime customer and friend Heidi Kapppes Belinsky rescues angles. Heidi goes anywhere she can to find and ‘rescue’ old cashmere sweaters, then turns them into scarves and other accessories.
You can purchase her goods at a lot great boutiques here in Seattle or you can shop direct from her Etsy store. She will take down the link when ever she has a big trunk show like she does today a the Canal Station Art Walk. Heidi and many others local artisans will be at the Canal Station Condo community lounge, 2nd floor from 3:30pm to 9:30pm. Go buy and get something nice for your sweetie early and feel good about it because it is sustainable!

All I want for Christmas…
My birthday is near enough to Christmas that my parents always made sure there was a clear separation between birthday and Christmas gifts.
When I was starting kindergarten, I had a neighbor friend that had a two-wheeled bike and I remember learning how to ride without training wheels. I only took a couple of spills and then seemed to get it. I remember also the thrill of being able to just GO!
Well, I was cruising around the internet a while back, looking for a bike and I found Electra Bike. I love the traditional Dutch bike “Amsterdam”. It is both beautiful and functional.
Now, Electra and The Gap have teamed together to bring a new model of beach cruiser for Christmas time, complete with very hip argyle fenders and white wall tires. The only problem is, you have to get it at The Gap.
This post has the possibility of netting you free coffee. Read through and you will find out how.
I have a little program of analytical information that is attached to this blog and everyday it tells me many different things.
It tells me how many individual hits the blog gets, (if you come back for a second or third look on the same computer it still counts as one look.) It also tells me what parts of the blog are the most popular. Right now, the most popular is the “location” feature. What it doesn’t tell me is what parts of the city, county, state, country or globe you may be coming to this site from.
I know my friends around the country are looking at the site, I just don’t know where from. So I have devised a way to tell, a contest of sorts.
This is where the free coffee come in: For the next Calendar week, (ending on Thursday, November 20th 0:00H GMT) I will gather information about who lives the farthest away from the shop. Follow these instructions:
Leave a comment in the ‘comment’ section of THIS POST. Please don’t leave your home address in the post. I will contact you for that information then measure the distance ‘as the crow flies’ using Google Earth. At the end of the week, I will ship the person who lives the farthest away a 12oz bag of Muse Coffee Co beans. It is that easy.
To be fair, it must be your home address.
So, Sorry Josh, Mark, Chelsea, I know you live too close. Maybe Jennifer in Denver will be the one, or Erica in IL will win. Maybe Jon in LA will win if Shaundra in Boston doesn’t see the post…
