Flavor Bible

This past Sunday Muse was proud to host Karen Page and Andrew Dorenburg, authors of The Flavor Bible. They were in town to sign and talk about this book and others they have written: Becoming a Chef, What to Drink with what you Eat, and Chef’s Night Out to name a few.

Local food blogger, Frantic Foodie (aka Keren Brown) organized an under the radar discussion with the James Beard Award winning pair and it was an honor that they chose Muse as the place to host them.

Thanks Keren!

Let’s Knit, Shall We?

Let’s Knit, Shall We?, originally uploaded by knit_purr.

It is Monday and the Purl Jam group is meeting again and being the friendly folks they are, they wanted me to again send out this invitation to YOU!

They don’ t care if you knit, crotchet, or even needle point, just come and have a good time from 6-8pm here at the shop every Monday night.

As far as we know, Eddie, Stone and the other guys from Pearl Jam do not knit, but they are certainly invited to attend as well.

See you to knit er… tonight!

Brazil comes to Seattle

The past two days have been a little cloudy and rainy, but the sunny beaches of Brazil have been brought to Muse via J.J. Jackson, American born blues singer who has been living in Brazil for the past 25 years, but entertaining folks all over the world.

This Saturday he will be performing in Seattle at Siam on Lake Union, 1880 Fairview Ave E. at 930pm.

J.J. Jackson has written and arranged songs for many artists including the Shangri-La’s and is very talented and let’s face it, you have nothing going on this Saturday. You should go!

J.J. and his companion Esmeralda are just the sweetest folks and it has been a pleasure to get to know them.

Obrigado, Abraços, e Beijos!

Purl Jam!

That’s right! It is Monday night and the Purl Jammers are already calling. Come see this woman try and knit herself a cashmere bikini!

If you are a knitter and are looking for a great group of fellow knitters to come and share ideas with, or you want to get some feedback about your project, come down to Muse between 6 and 8pm.

I can not be responsible for any confusion with another Pearl Jam in Seattle. Of course if they want to come, they are more than welcome.

See you in the store!

Mentors

One of the things about the coffee industry is that many of us are passionate about coffee and a little bit nuts about getting the perfect shot out of the perfectly roasted bean.

Kent and his company La Marzocco, is one of the most sought after experts in espresso technology in the world and is also considered one of the most genuinely nice guys of all time. Like any industry, ego fuels many of the characters. Kent doesn’t have anything to prove, he has done it all and does it all without the ego. He is widely credited with taking the espresso that was being served in Seattle in the 70’s and working tirelessly to improve technique and ultimately flavor of coffee here in our rainy city.

He visited the store the other day and I just have to say it made my week!  He was very complimentary and ws even happier to see one of his machines in our store.

Kent is now getting involved in Chocolate now and it is heavenly.

beautiful game

It is Friday and I thought I would keep it light today.

I love soccer and one of my favorite footballers is Ronaldinho. This video is a Nike commercial that was run a few years ago during the World Cup.

Enjoy and have a great weekend. See you in the shop!

Yirgacheffee is here!

Ethiopian coffees are my favorites. They tend to be very wild and untamed in their flavor profile and can range from leather and spices to floral and fruity. I’ve tasted a lot of Ethiopian coffee and I have tasted blueberry notes in quite a few of those coffees; but this one takes the cake. (ahem, blueberry cake perhaps.)

Scott at Herkimer has found some of the best Ethiopia Yirgacheffe I have ever tasted. His cupping notes for this single origin are as follows:

Throwing down with some Misty Valley…I know, it’s been available for awhile. If you haven’t heard of or tried this yirg you must take a gander. It’s one of the few that tastes exactly like it smells all the way through the process. Exploding Lilac and Froot Loop lemon blueberry on the nose, sweet red and black seed fruit in the mouth. Almost yemenish with a different spicy depth. Oily vine and powdered sugar texture. Fairly full bodied for a yirgie. Malted chocolate and a bit of salty caramel mixed with mint leaves on the finish. Nice long finish, too.

It is truly a great coffee and frankly, I tasted blueberry all the way through. It is available in the store for $13.50 for a 12oz bag. It is a unique coffee in that it’s sweetness is consistent through out the cup and doesn’t ever get an acrid finish. Scott was able to get a limited amount so get some before it is all gone.

Muse Coffee Purl Jam!

In response to my last email call for suggestions, I am sending this to inform you about our new special interest night.  Starting Monday, September 15th  from 6-8pm we will be hosting our first “Purl Jam”.  It seems there is a group of knitters that is looking for a regular place to meet and we are just the place.

Hilltop Yarn is going to offer specials to Purl Jam participants and I am excited to work with Jennifer at Hilltop to make this event a lot of fun.  Even if you don’t knit, but would like to learn how, I am sure someone at Purl Jam will be more than happy to help you out or Hilltop has classes on as well.

If you are a knitter looking for a little inspiration for your next project, or you have a project you are working on and want to meet some great people on Queen Anne, come down to Muse between 6-8pm every Monday.  If we have to stay open a little late for you, we can.  The folks who are hosting this event are friendly and the only requirement to join in is that you are friendly too.

I happend across the above photo at a great blog for knitters called Punk Rawk Purl.  Check her out, great blog resource for any knitter.
