Ice Slide

Ice Slide, originally uploaded by bhenrymartin.

I know I have not blogged in a while but I have a good reason. I broke my elbow. I didn’t even know you could do that but when you think about it, why not.

I broke it on March 4th in Quebec City riding the ice slide in front of the Chateau Frontenac. It was a ton of fun until I lost my balance at about 35mph smacked my left elbow square on the ice and rode that way till I could get my balance back.

After the ride was over, my wife asked if I was ok and I answered, ‘no’. Instead of seeing a doctor, I decided to see a bartender and ride out the pain. I was sure it would get better, but alas it still has not. I have been trying to get by with an arm that will not fully open up completely and is almost always in pain.

I’m telling you this because I am having surgery April 2nd and they will fix me. I won’t be able to type very well for a while but I promise to get back to this better after I start to heal. If you are the kind of person who prays, meditates, maybe you send positive energy into the world, what ever you do, please send it to me and to Dr. Joel Shapiro.

If you are at all medically minded, I have an ‘olecranon fracture’. Even though the following images are not my particular case, it is exactly what I have and will have done to fix me.

Thanks!

BrüTübe

LOGO2.0 part I, originally uploaded by Stabilo Boss.

One of your fellow customers has planned a great event and I wanted you to know about it.

So many of us watch YouTube more than we are watching broadcast television, so why not take it to the next level? Participate, make your own video content. That is what Curtis and a few friends decided to do. They even decided to ask popular beer maker Red Hook to join in on the fun.

Friday, March 27 @ 7:30 PM

Kirkland Arts Center Gallery

Please join us for an evening of curated YouTube videos and beer!
Ranging from thought-provoking to thought-revoking, BrüTübe will feature six curators, each presenting a 15 minute set of videos revolving around the evening’s theme, “mash-ups.” This free event will be held in the Kirkland Arts Center Gallery, during the current exhibit, Outside the Lines. Beer generously provided by Redhook Ale Brewery.

BrüTübe Cürators:

Andy Arkley, Musician (The Bran Flakes, Library Science) & Designer Courtney Barnebey, Musician (Library Science) & Designer Curtis Erlinger, Artist Casey Keeler, Artist, Musician, Curator Kathy Lindenmayer, Co-Producer, Rock Lottery/Costume Designer Troy Nelson, Comedian/Musician (Black Daisy), DJ (KEXP)

a beard even i can wear

I shave twice a week whether I need to or not. I just can’t grow a beard to save my life. With so many hipster rock bands growing beards these days, I am starting to feel left out.

Kelley and I are off to Quebec next week for a few days and now I can keep my head and face warm, maintain that cool hipster look and not give my Raven Haired Beauty a face rash when I kiss her. Introducing the Beardhead. Four to choose from: Viking (yellow), Lumberjack (brown), Grandpa (grey), and Pirate (black). They even have interchangeable moustache styles. $24.99

Cards

lets-get-it-on

Just in time for Valentine’s Day are a few of the sweetest cards for your honey. Couple that with a wrapped heart shaped cookie and you are a last minute superhero to someone.

Suite 7 Creative, a local design company is creating a new line of cards and postcards that will be available at Muse. Honestly, sometimes all you need is a card and a cookie to tell some one how special they are in your life.

Chocolate and Coffee Event!

cacao pods, originally uploaded by joyousx.

For the past two weeks I have had been busy working on the first event at Muse of 2009. I have been very hard at work with Lauren from Chocolopolis tasting and learning more about single origin chocolate. Along with Scott, our roast master at Herkimer, we have come up with some great pairings and are excited to share them with you.
Be sure to mark your calendar for February 19th at 7pm. Chocolopolis will also be inviting their costumers, and space is limited to 26 people so be sure to sign up soon! For only $25 per person, Lauren, Scott and I will talk about the various methods used to process cacao (pictured above, yes that is really what chocolate starts out as) and coffee, how terroir affects flavor, and the significance of roast in the process of creating the best end product. During the event, we will be cupping and tasting coffee and pairing the coffee with the chocolate to create amazing combinations that enhance both products. For this event only, there will be special pricing for .25lb, and .5lb bags of each single origin coffee and single origin chocolate will be available as well. This event is a great Valentine’s Day gift for you and your sweetie to enjoy together.
As space is limited make your reservation now by calling me at 206.282.2711. If the event is a sell out, we will schedule another event in the near future. I have received a great response to the event as details have been released, so book early!
It has been a little while since I last wrote a blog posting, but as I am sure many of you understand, I have been busy running a small business in a challenging economy. No matter what may be going on with our Global or National economies, the staff at Muse is doing everything to make sure your experience in our store is exceptional in experience and value. Thank you for choosing Muse when getting your daily coffee, we appreciate your business.

Only in…

: figure drawing class, originally uploaded by Orwellsvision.

I love where I live and I see around me everyday things that could only happen in Seattle. I see cars parked on the wrong side of the road, I see people sunbathing on the beach in April when it is sunny and 58 degrees, again, only in Seattle.

In America, we have things that can only happen in this country i.e., Drive through liquor and ammunition.

I read in the paper today a story that could only happen in France. A very unusual group decided to bare all and strike against the French government; that’ll show em’.
